3rdOF JULY MILITARY COMMERCIAL PORT
Executive Summary
In 2019, the Egyptian Navy launched a strategic port and naval base development project in Gargoup, Matrouh, Egypt. Covering 1,100 hectares with a 30,000 m² built-up area, the project was designed to strengthen Egypt’s naval infrastructure and enhance maritime security in the western region. The facility integrates advanced quay walls, breakwaters, and marine structures to accommodate large vessels and withstand challenging coastal conditions.
Project Description
The project scope included:
2,000 m gravity block quay wall with a 17.5 m draught
Main breakwater of 2,025 m and secondary breakwater of 2,770 m
Large-scale concrete, steel, marine, utility, and infrastructure works, along with buildings and pavements
High production and supply rates: 1,200 CuM/day concrete and 25,000 tons/day rock
Materials included 1,500 tons of steel and massive breakwater construction to ensure durability and protection
Specialized equipment, including 600-ton and 1,200-ton cranes, enabled efficient handling of large-scale marine and structural components.
Client Challenge
The Egyptian Navy required a robust marine base capable of accommodating large naval operations while ensuring structural integrity and compliance with safety regulations. The challenge was to design and construct a facility that meets the specific logistical and operational needs of military maritime activities.
