Alexandria marine port

Executive Summary

In 2020, the TMT Tahya Masr Multi-Purpose Port Quays (Berths 55–62) project was executed in Alexandria for EGMPT – Egyptian Group for Multi-Purpose Terminals. The project involved large-scale reclamation, advanced soil improvement techniques, and the construction of high-capacity quay walls and terminal infrastructure to support multi-purpose port operations.

Project Description

The project scope included extensive marine, civil, and infrastructure works, highlighted by the following key components:

  • Terminal Area Reclamation:

    • Area: 550,000 m²

    • Total reclamation volume: 10,300,000 m³

  • Soil Improvement Techniques:

    • PVD (Prefabricated Vertical Drains)

    • VC (Vibro Compaction)

    • RIC (Rapid Impact Compaction)

  • Quay Wall System:

    • Type: Diaphragm Wall

    • Length: 1,250 m

    • Design draught: 14.5 / 17.0 m

  • Foundation Works:

    • Bored piles: 1.5 m diameter

    • Barrettes: 2.8 m width

    • Total piling works: 21,000 linear meters

  • Concrete Works:

    • Total concrete volume: 200,000 m³

  • Pavement Works:

    • Paved area: 560,000 m²

  • Built-up Area:

    • 10,000 m²

Client Challenge

The project required the execution of massive reclamation and soil improvement works to create a stable foundation for port infrastructure, while constructing deep-draught quay walls and terminal facilities within a tight schedule. Coordinating multiple soil improvement techniques, piling systems, and marine works across a large terminal area demanded precise planning, high productivity, and strict quality control.
